An Uncomfortable Spot

As the tour guide masterfully guided our group over, under and around Hawai'i Volcanoes National Park, I turned my gaze downward to observe each of my steps - realizing that my sneakered feet were actually touching what used to be hot lava.  Now, what remains is solidified lava rock in beautiful hues of gray.  In the midst of this lava rock, I spotted this small flower peaking through.  I immediately wondered, "How did this little flower emerge from these rough rocks"?  And not having enough Earth Science knowledge to come to a viable conclusion, I turned my wonder into thinking how STRONG and PERSISTENT this little flower had to be in order to BLOOM in what appears to be an uncomfortable spot.

As you continue on your dissertation journey, know that there will be moments when you feel like you are in an "uncomfortable spot" but just like this little flower be STRONG, be PERSISTENT and you will BLOOM - even in the discomfort.
