One Day, One Page at a Time

This morning, as I was getting everything ready for my upcoming Just Write Anyway Workshop, my favorite song from my favorite artist (Mary J. Blige) came blasting through my computer speakers. And let me tell you, I had to stop, turn it up, and just let the words and beat sink in.

It was one of those moments where music does more than entertain, it reminds.

Mary’s voice reminded me of a truth I want to pass on to you: There is nothing you cannot achieve. Trust God. Believe in yourself. Always.

And then came the line that made me think of you, Scholar.
“All you have to do is… take your time… one day at a time… it’s all on you what you’re going to do.”

Those words hit me.

Because I know what it feels like to juggle the busyness of life and the weight of writing a dissertation.

Some days, it feels impossible.

The laundry. The kiddos. The work deadlines. The family obligations. The exhaustion. And then, somehow, the dissertation has to fit in there too.

But here’s the thing: you don’t need motivation. You don’t need hours of uninterrupted time (though wouldn’t that be nice?).

What you need is momentum.

Momentum doesn’t happen in big bursts. It happens one writing session at a time. One page at a time.

One choice to sit down and write, even if it’s just for 15 minutes, instead of scrolling or stalling.

That’s what Just Write Anyway is all about. It’s about giving you the repeatable steps, the structure, and the confidence to make progress—even when life happens.

Because life will happen. But that doesn’t mean your dissertation has to stay stuck.

So today, I want you to take Mary’s words with you.

Take your time.
One day at a time.
It’s all on you what you’re going to do.

And I believe you’ve got this.

Let’s build your momentum this fall, together.
